Balloon Quilt
by Pearl Loyal - 1st Place |
 |
|
Inspired by
the Tillamook County Quilters 1994 raffle quilt,
based on a pattern in Ladies Circle Patchwork
magazine, 1994. I started my version in
January 1995 and finished in September 2002.
The 898 stuffed balloons took 10 minutes each to
hand appliqué, equaling 150 hours of appliqué
alone! This quilt is all hand done. |

I love
appliqué and I love all the old Kansas City
Star patterns, so this quilt was a natural for
me. |

I made this
quilt from a picture and illustrations in the
Japanese magazine, "Patchwork Quilt Tsushin".
It really would have helped if I could read
Japanese! Karin Rainier did the machine
quilting. |
