Splendid Stars by Mary Hickey - 1st Place

I have always wanted to make a feathered star quilt (this pattern is from Encyclopedia of Quilts).  When I found the border and sashing fabrics I knew I was ready.  I really enjoyed choosing the fabrics for each block and piecing the stars.  My dear Amish friend, Fannie Schwartz, did a fantastic job hand-quilting the quilt.  We both love the quilt and love working together to make really fine quilts.

Kansas City Inspiration No. 2 by Joan Dawson - 2nd Place
I enjoyed so much appliquéing my first quilt using the Kansas City Star patterns that I had to make another.  I designed this quilt and again based it on the old '30s patterns.  Is this the final one?  I did the hand quilting.  Machine quilting by Judy Irish.

Friendship Knot by Mary Calderon - 3rd Place Tie
I wanted to do a solid-arch Friendship Knot like Roxanne Carter's pieced one.  I loved this floral pattern and wanted to feature it and the plum.  I also wanted it specially quilted so took it to Judy Irish and told her to have fun.
