Earth Song by Maurine Roy - 1st Place

The Japanese characters mean "If we love nature as we love ourselves, the earth will become beautiful and all good things in our human lives will come to be part of the earth."

Whirls & Posies by Patti Glenn - 2nd Place
The block used in this quilt came from a Roxanne Carter pattern.  I wanted to make the quilt using more than just the basic block and setting.  I changed color placement within the block, which altered the look and added the appliqué design.  The challenge to myself was to create an interesting quilt with little value change between the elements.

Look Toward the Sun by Shannon Klemm - 3rd Place
This quilt features felted hand-dyed wool appliquéd to a flannel backing.  The majority of the embroidery was carried out with silk floss.  Feather stitching in variegated floss shows the passage of the day and the shadows that fall.

46 x 36
