Success For Angie in 2003! by Pam Pifer - 1st Place

I made this quilt for my daughter, Angie, for her graduation from the University of Washington in June, 2003.  She is now in graduate school at Bastyr in Kirkland.  Needless to say, we are all very proud of her.  This was my first time using batiks in a quilt and I loved working with them.  This quilt is quite different from the very traditional fabrics and quilt patterns I usually work with - but suits Angie perfectly!  From the book Batik Beauties by Laurie Shifrin.

I was thumbing through a magazine at Judy Pollard's and saw a photo of an old '30s quilt.  I quickly copied the page and came up with this design, using original '30s fabrics.

Indian Summer by Marilyn Sanders - 3rd Place
This quilt is my first attempt to machine quilt a whole quilt.  Done at home on my Pfaff.  A big, slow, challenging job.  My next one will be better.  The two-color (red and white) quilt features a feathered star in the center, many borders and Northwind blocks in the corners.
