900 ~ Pieced Solo - A

Stars in the Night by Roxanne Carter - 1st Place

One of my students asked me to help make this a bigger quilt.  The original design was only 55" x 55".  I did make it bigger and also made the quilt myself.  I used the Starr Design hand-dyes fabrics.  It is partly strip pieced and lots of paper foundation pieced.  I used the new freezer paper technique for the paper foundation piecing and it went together great.  Machine piece and machine quilted.

1845 Lives Again by Jean Quinby - 2nd Place
While at retreat one spring, a friend showed my a black and white copy machine picture of a quilt from a boo, Better Homes and Gardens "Grandma's Best Full-Size Quilt Block" Pieces of the Past for Today's Quilter.  I asked for a copy and drafted a block pattern on quarter inch paper.  I only had a 3" square picture of the whole quilt.  I had been collecting reproduction fabric to make a Dear Jane quilt.  Made this instead.  The original quilt I later found out is n the U of Nebraska Quilt Museum.  Machine pieced and machine quilted.

Red and Purple Quilt by Linda Tellesbo - 3rd Place
The pattern for this quilt is Lotus Garden and was perfect for showcasing the large red print.  Three of my friends really liked the quilt, so they are making it with the exact same fabrics! Machine pieced and machine quilted.
