Wish Upon A Star by
Dianna Park- 1st Place |
 |
| The
journey of this quilt began I saw this quilt
pattern during the 2005 Shop Hop, but the
pattern sold out. I ordered the pattern
and shopped for this fabric during the 2006 Shop
Hop, a day I spent with my Mom and my 19 year
old son (he wanted to spend the day with him Mom
- what a great kid!). Mexican Stars
pattern by Annette Ornelas, Southwind Designs;
Quilting inspired by books written by Karen
McTavish. Machine pieced, machine quilted. |

An old photo
of my daughter and friends inspired first a
watercolor painting and this quilt.
Originally I left the faces blank on the quilt
but friends and family persuaded me to paint
them in - combining my love of painting and love
of quilting. Hand and machine pieced, hand
quilted. |

 |
| I thank
Karen McTavish for her designs from her books
"The Secrets of Elemental Quilting" and
"Mastering the Art of McTavishing" that I based
this quilt on. And I thank Linda for
pushing me out of the nest to stretch my longarm
wings. Machine pieced, machine quilted. |

Little Welsh
Medallion by Dianna Park - HM |
 |
| I have
always loved wholecloth quilts, but do not have
what it takes to make a bed size wholecloth
quilt (yet). This was a perfect size for
me. This quilt reminds me of the many
places that I went with this quilt, the
practices, games and various activities that my
kids participated in while I stitched on the
sidelines, the quiet times spent with a good
movie and a needle and the lessons learned
through it all. Inspired by the lessons
taught in "Welsh Quilting Pattern and design
Handbook" by Marjorie Horton. Hand pieced,
hand quilted. |
