Flor de la Mar by Lisa Jenni - 1st Place

After a visit to Lisbon/Portugal, I got fascinated by the early navigators. Many of these ships never returned. The Flor de la Mar was on it's way home, full with treasures and slave girls, taken from Malacca (today's Malaysia). It run into a storm near the coast of eastern Sumatra and sank. The crew got saved, but not the slaves. I used trapunto, hand made stencils and oil sticks for letters and objects.

Postage stamp by Kerry Fondren - 3rd Place
I couldn't bear to toss my scraps, so I put them to good use. This kept me busy for a long time and was a great project to work on during Fall and Spring QA Retreats. I made stacks of 16-patches, then figured out how to put them together.
