Retreats
QA sponsors two quilting retreats each year, held at a retreat facility in the Cascade foothills. Retreat is a chance to get away from it all and focus on nothing but your quilting projects for several days.
Our Spring retreat runs for five days and four nights in early April, and is a great way to relax and get back to quilting after our busy quilt show season. Our Fall retreat runs six days and five nights in early November, and gives you uninterrupted time to wrap up holiday projects. You can choose the length of your retreat, signing up for all five days, coming up for one day, or anything in between. See the QA calendar for the dates of upcoming retreats.
Retreat is held at Camp Huston, an idyllic setting in the Cascade foothills near Gold Bar. Camp Huston is a youth camp during the summer, so you will need to bring your own bedding and personal items. The friendly staff at Camp Huston provides all the meals – you have nothing to do but quilt, quilt, quilt! Each attendee is assigned a workspace in one of five workrooms that range in size from a cozy space for eight quilters to a large hall with room for 38.
There are no structured classes or workshops at retreat, and no instructors. You bring all your own quilting materials, sewing machine, and supplies to work on your own projects, at your own speed. If at any time during your stay a hike or nap seems more important than quilting, that’s fine too.
You are rubbing elbows with some of the most creative quilters in the area, so opinions, advice and help are always at hand. Periodic “walk-throughs” of the various workrooms to see what others are creating will provide both education and inspiration.
Because they are so much fun, retreats are also extremely popular. Space is limited, so if you want to attend, be sure to follow the registration instructions when announced in the newsletter (January and August), and get to the post office early on the day of registration. Applications must be postmarked!
