Becoming a Member
Membership in Quilters Anonymous is open to anyone interested in quilts or quilting. We welcome all skill levels, from beginners to experts, and want everyone to feel comfortable joining QA. Current non-members may choose to attend two meetings as our guests before deciding to join and become active QA members.
The QA membership year runs from October through the following September. Membership dues are currently $50 for the full year and are due by September 1st. If you join after that date, you will not be included in the roster for the current year as the cutoff date for publishing is September 15th. If you join after March 1st, membership dues will be prorated for the remainder of that current membership year. Members aged 80 years or older are granted free lifetime membership.
QA also offers a junior membership for youth between the ages of 10 and 18 at one half the dues of adult membership. Junior members must be sponsored by an active adult member of QA. Junior members, accompanied by the sponsoring adult member, may attend meetings and day camps, use the library, and enter the quilt show either as a youth or in appropriate voting categories. If you are sponsoring someone under 13 years old, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance with signing that person up as a new Junior Member.
At the first meeting as a new member you will receive a membership packet which includes our guild pin, your QA badge, some detailed information on QA, a current printed roster with membership card, a parking pass, and access to the members-only area of our website. Upon request, access to our Facebook group can be set up as well.
The members-only area of our website provides access to QA newsletters; by-laws, guidelines, and other guild information; plus our online membership directory and a printable membership card.
As a member, you will be able to attend our monthly meetings, participate in workshops given by our incredible monthly speakers, and use the expansive QA library. Also, twice a year we hold 2-day Day Camps with classes taught by our own QA members and 5-day Quilt Retreats at Camp Huston near Gold Bar. Of course our annual 3-day QA Quilt Show is a highlight of our year and takes place in March at the Evergreen Fairgrounds in Monroe.
Once you become a member you will receive a monthly email notice that the newsletter is available on the QA website. This is usually done the last week of the current month for the upcoming month. This newsletter contains all the monthly activities and updates from chairs on the various QA committees as well as information and notices on things coming up. This
newsletter can be sent to your home if you don’t have access to a computer, for a cost of $25 per year. This can be included with your membership dues when you join QA each year.
The only requirement of each current member is participation in the Quilt Show by working a minimum of 4 hours per year as chairperson, committee member or volunteer. This is also a requirement if you plan on entering your quilt(s) in the show. The Quilt Show is a tremendous financial resource each year that enables us to continue to provide the best speakers and activities for our membership, as well as continue to support the many charity projects we have taken on as a guild in the best possible way.
Though not a Standing Rule, each member is encouraged to purchase at least 10 tickets for the annual raffle quilt. It is displayed monthly at our meetings and tickets are available for purchase then.
There are no other specific requirements for volunteering in QA, although the organization depends solely on the volunteer efforts of all current and new members to help keep the guild running smoothly.
