Our Featured Artist, Katie Sprugel, started sewing in junior high, making garments and stuffed animals. In high school and college, she moved on to designing and constructing costumes for school drama productions. She made her first quilt in 1982, followed by a few baby quilts, but didn’t start quilting seriously until around 2014. |

“Eucalyptus Dreams” by Katie Sprugel | Katie is a technique geek. She is a retired scientist and applies an analytical perspective to all of her projects. She loves trying new techniques and figuring out “better” (more forgiving, more efficient, more fun) ways to make a quilt. She has made about 50 quilts in the last ten years, and 30 of her best will be on display at the 2026 Quilters Anonymous Quilt Show. |
